Using evidence-based methods, we’ll uncover the ways that different -isms and oppressive systems have played a role in your life. Through a mix of cognitive-behavioral therapy and liberation psychology (with a hint of “stick it to the man” sprinkled in), we’ll prepare you to take on the internal and external forces that are at the root of your mental health struggles.

Individual Therapy

If you’re looking for a therapy experience that empowers you to actually make changes in your life, our individual programs focus on just that. We believe in action-oriented, time-limited sessions that provide you with coping strategies and space to process specific stressors in your life.

With each full-priced client subsidizing the cost of another client who may not be able to pay full price, we’re able to provide high-quality therapy with very little cost barrier. Each individual session is 53 minutes, fully virtual and available in English, Spanish, Portuguese and American Sign Language. We work with clients ages 16 and over. Group Therapy

Through group therapy, we bring together people experiencing similar issues and work through them in a shared, virtual space. We offer groups for:

  • We do not believe in gatekeeping mental health care. Our door is open to all BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, immigrants or children of immigrants, and/or multiply-marginalized persons who are introspective and willing to put in the work between sessions. The only prerequisite is that you must be an adolescent (16 or older) or adult and a resident of the state of California or New York. And because all of our sessions are virtual, we’re working on broadening our reach and getting licensed in other states.

    If you don't meet these requirements, maybe you'd be a good fit for our coaching services which are available in all 50 states and outside of the U.S.

  • Our time together is entirely shaped by your personal needs and situation. However, we are fully equipped to help you explore issues with anxiety, trauma, mood disorders (depression, etc.), identity, immigration distress, life transitions & adjustments, effective communication, relationship issues, stress, self-esteem, and athletic performance & participation.

  • On average, an individual session is about 53 minutes long while a group therapy session is 45 minutes long. However, at the beginning of your treatment, we will discuss a recommended therapy plan based on your needs. Some individuals benefit from a more intensive approach or prefer to receive treatment more frequently. If this is the case, let us know! We’ll work this into your therapy plan.

  • We work hard to balance keeping our fees competitive with highly skilled psychologists in the San Francisco Bay Area while maintaining our commitment to racial, dis/ability and economic equity.

    With that said, our current rate is $385 for a 53-minute therapy session and $410 for a 53-minute, one-time initial intake session. For group therapy, our current rate for a 45-minute session is $100. In order to help you get coverage for your care, the folx at Zencare put together a very informative Step-by-Step Guide to Out-of-Network Benefits. We also offer reduced fee options for folx with lower income, accept various payment methods (not including insurance), and offer group therapy at a more affordable rate to increase accessibility to care.

  • All you have to do is apply! If we’re a good fit, a team member will reach out to get you onboarded and scheduled for your initial intake session (for individual therapy).

    This 53-minute session does not establish a professional relationship. Instead, we’ll use this time to get familiar with your needs and begin creating a recommended treatment plan. Then we will move to the evaluation phase.

    The evaluation phase takes place during your first 2 or 3 sessions. After your evaluation, we’ll:

    • Factor in biology, psychology, social learning and cultural factors to form our understanding of your concerns.

    • Share our recommended treatment plan and make sure it feels aligned with your goals, wants and needs. If you feel something needs to change? We’ll tweak until we reach a point where we both feel good about moving forward.

    If, for some reason, we determine you require a service we do not offer, we’ll provide you with a list of referrals.

    And if you apply and it’s not a fit? We’ve got you, too! We’ll help you get started by providing potential resources that are better equipped to help you work through the recommended treatment plan we created for you.
